Students with fewer opportunities

The “Umberto Giordano” Conservatory of Music offers “Special Learning” to incoming students with disabilities and Specific Learning Disorders, as for its own students, to allow them better conditions in following lessons in a rewarding and profitable way, with an evaluation carried out with the appropriate tools during the exams.
Students with disabilities are guaranteed the right to take advantage of specific technological and educational aids that facilitate the performance required in the deficient skill also in collaboration with specialized centers;
students with Specific Learning Disorders are guaranteed measures aimed at facilitating skills, not content.
The compensatory tools are: educational and technological which facilitate the performance required in the deficient skill, such as tables, concept maps, video writing programs with spell checker or for speech synthesis, recorder. For the purposes of the widest inclusion, the right to personalize learning and to use the compensatory tools and dispensatory measures provided for Specific Learning Disorders is also extended to students with Special Educational Needs.
To protect these target groups with fewer opportunities, a teacher has been appointed as an “academic tutor” who fulfills his function as a liaison between the student and the teacher, promotes contacts, communication and provides the information and advice requested. It also ensures the correct carrying out of lessons and exams, through the use of tools designed for students with disabilities and, above all, plans individualized study paths to achieve educational success. Finally, it removes any obstacle to teaching activities to make the student as independent as possible, within the framework of equal opportunities. It monitors the agreements stipulated with specialized centers with the function of pedagogical consultancy, production and adaptation of specific teaching material.
